FHIMA Mentorship Program

The FHIMA Mentorship Program promotes communication and professional relationships between students, who are currently in a CAHIIM approved HIA or HIT program in the state of Florida, and mentors who are experienced, energetic, and committed HIM professionals willing to contribute to the future excellence of the HIM profession. Mentors share their experiences, offer advice and encouragement, answer questions, and act as leaders/advisors to the student in which they are assigned.

The FHIMA Mentorship program strives to provide:

  1. A forum where students can obtain practical and honest career advice from experienced professionals.

  2. Information that is timely and useful, and corresponds with ongoing student concerns.

  3. Mentor responses that are meaningful, accurate, and clear representation of the current HIM field environment.

  4. Examples of conduct that inspire students and instill in them a sense of pride in the HIM profession.

  5. Increased awareness about FHIMA’s and AHIMA’s commitment to the future of HIM, about the latest FHIMA and AHIMA resources available to members, and the many benefits of continued membership.

  6. Methods for efficiently directing students to appropriate HIM information sources.

  7. Ways of identifying possible future tracks, needs, concerns, and challenges of the HIM profession.

  8. To help “Bridge the Gap” for students between education and employment.
